Unlike underground cable installation, pulling in conductors can generate significantly higher tensile forces, which the overhead line grips must withstand.<\/p>\n
For this reason, heavier strands and a three-strand mesh are required. However, to ensure that the overhead line grips remain flexible, the mesh is stepped in 3 sections, corresponding to the occurring tensile load distribution:<\/p>\n
Section with single-strand mesh – for absorbing low loads and establishing the friction lock<\/p>\n
Section with two-strand mesh – for absorbing higher loads and further establishing the friction lock<\/p>\n
Section with three-strand mesh – for absorbing the full load and fully establishing the friction lock<\/p>\n
The resulting self-clamping effect gives the pulling grip high resistance to slipping on the conductor.<\/p>\n
With pressed rope eyelet for conventional cable pulling; however, due to their rigid ferrules, these pulling grips are not suitable for pulling over bullwheels, capstan heads or Figure-eight brakes with diameters of less than 1000 mm. There is a risk that individual strands of the outer layer will be levered off directly at the ferrule.<\/p>\n
Samples of the pulling grips are submitted to an independent rope testing institute for breaking tests.
