In contrast to underground cable installation, significantly higher tensile forces can occur when pulling in conductors, and these forces must be absorbed by the overhead line grips.
For this reason, stronger strands and a three-strand braid are required. However, to ensure that the overhead line grips remain flexible, the braid is graded into 3 sections in accordance with the distribution of the tensile load that occurs:
Section with 1-ply braid – for low load absorption and for establishing the friction-locked connection
Section with 2-ply braid – for higher load absorption and for further establishing the friction-locked connection
Section with 3-ply braid – for full load absorption and for fully establishing the friction-locked connection
The resulting self-clamping effect provides the pulling grip with high resistance to slipping on the conductor.
With a hand-spliced eyelet whose high flexibility enables these pulling grips to run over traction sheaves, capstan heads or Figure-eight brakes.
The pulling grips are submitted on a random-sample basis to an independent rope testing body for breaking tests. On request, when supplying pulling grips for overhead line construction, we provide our customers with instructions for use (based on practical experience) and a table showing all technical data.
